Archival Publications

Some of the photos in our collection are extracted from published sources including the Charles Camsell Indian Hospital Annual Pictorial Review and historical publications of the Sanatorium Board of Manitoba including Annual Reports and their monthly newsletter the Bulletin.

Although the Camsell Pictorial Review was published out of the Charles Camsell Indian Hospital in Edmonton, the collection of photos and articles featured content from Indian hospitals and residential schools across Canada. The Camsell Pictorial Reviews are available online and links can be found in the Resources section of the website.

The Annual Reports of the Sanatorium Board, the Messenger of Health, and the Sanatorium Board Bulletin featured images that were most likely commissioned by the San Board for advertising and inclusion in these publications. We have digitized these publications with the permission of the Manitoba Lung Association, and you can find them in the TB Archive section of the website.

The images extracted from these publications are low quality, but they are important sources of information for names of Indigenous patients and details about daily life in the TB hospitals.
